Courtney Tran

2014 Undergraduate Scholarship Recipient
Loma Linda University | School of Nursing

Courtney Tran is a senior nursing student in the Loma Linda University’s BSN program. This is her second degree following her undergraduate studies at UCLA, where she earned her first degree in microbiology, immunology, and molecular genetics. Her love of science and biology in the context of human health has grown over the years and found its home in the incredible world of nursing. After being in and out of hospitals with ill family members and friends, she realized a strong desire to work on the front line of patient healing by becoming a registered nurse. What is most attractive about the nursing profession is its perfect harmony between science and human compassion that lends itself to the world of service to others. Knowing the monumental difference that the nurses made in her own life and that of her family, she feels incredibly blessed to pursue work with the potential to change lives on a daily basis.

As she approaches completion of her nursing degree and upcoming licensure, she hopes to work in the capacity of a critical care environment with an adult population. During her critical care rotation on various intensive care units at the Loma Linda Medical Center, she thoroughly enjoyed seeing trends in patient status, processing complex patient histories and interpreting and applying the knowledge to immediate, potentially life-threatening needs. She also enjoyed having the opportunity.
