Annelise Lim

2013 Undergraduate Scholarship Recipient
Loma Linda University | School of Nursing

Annelise was born and raised in Southern California, deep in the heart of suburbia. Following in her brother’s footsteps, she moved a few hours north to attend Pacific Union College, where she earned an undergraduate degree in Fine Art. Between her sophomore and junior years of college, she spent a few months volunteering at a hospital in Nepal. After graduating, she took some time exploring her options. Eventually, a job as a caretaker led to a sustained interest in a nursing career, which she is currently pursuing at Loma Linda University.

Her journey through nursing school has shown her that being a nurse provides a wide array of opportunities. One of the most important is the opportunity of caring for patients who are often at their most vulnerable. From this perspective, event the most menial of tasks becomes more of a privilege instead of just another checkbox on an often impossibly long to-do list.

For the last few months, Annelise has been working as a Patient Care Assistant on a pediatric unit at the Loma Linda University Medical Center. She has always enjoyed working with kids, and in the unique challenges of caring for hospitalized children and their families greatly intrigues her. During clinicals, she also enjoyed her time in the NICU. While not yet certain whether she will choose to work in the NICU or with a broader age range, Annelise looks forward to soon beginning a career as a pediatric nurse.
