My name is Maria Allyza Afable. I was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States when I was seven years old. I was inspired to go into nursing ever since my mother told me that my biological father was aspiring to be a nurse but passed away before he got his license to be registered.
Since I never got to meet him, I was interested in finding out his passion. I volunteered at a nursing home and found a holistic human aspect in what nurses do and how the profession centered around caring for one another. My passion grew from this experience and ever since, I aspired to have nursing as my life’s profession.
I am a student member of the American Psychiatrist Nurse Association and the president of Alpha Tau Delta (2016-2018), a national co-ed professional nursing fraternity that lends service to communities, provide scholarships, and serves as a professional network among nursing students nationwide.
